About Jim Katchur

Jim has had a lifelong interest in wildlife.  As a boy, he was fascinated by the natural beauty of  birds and other species he encountered in the hills of Pennsylvania.

Later, when he lived in Colorado, Jim enjoyed hunting and wildlife photography. He also developed a skill for taxidermy.  Each of these interests gave him numerous opporturnities to study both the anatomy of wildlife and their habitat.

On a chance visit to a museum in Colorado, Jim was inspired by some realistic wood carvings of wild fowl. With his love of nature and passion for art, he knew that wildlife carving would become a lifelong pursuit.

Through the years, Jim has taken various classes, including one from world class master bird carver Floyd Scholtz. He has found that wildlife carving with realistic detail is an on-going learning process, and more can always be learned from other carvers.

Jim has won many awards at woodcarver shows in Colorado and Arizona, including Best of Show and Peoples Choice , as well as numerous blue ribbons.
